Organized Home for Christmas-Living Organized

Having an Organized Home
for any holiday does not have
to be a chore, challenging or painful.

We see loads of organized home photos on Pinterest, Instagram, TV, in magazines and stores. And we begin to collect them…what to do with so many?

3 Steps to making your home organized and simplifying your holiday season.

Step 1: Decide where you will find your ideas.

  • Technology i.e. Do you search the web for ideas, pictures, recipes?
  • Magazines – check all your subscriptions or pick up a few in the check-out line.
  • A list – write down or type all my ideas/plans
  • A Combo of the above

Step 2: Research/Collect your Ideas

  • For those using Technology for pretty much everything these days – calendar management, banking, research and shopping, using technology efficiently likely comes easy to you.

Use Google, Bing or Yahoo for ideas, pictures and recipes.

Once you find what you’re are looking for you can save them in several easy ways.

Save photos to your photo library in a “Christmas IdeaAlbum (pick a name that makes sense for you and is easy to remember).  Most of all go with the first idea that comes to your mind. It’s most likely the right one for you.

You can save photos to your Pinterest account (again in a “board” that you create and you can access easily from anywhere that you are). Many of the photos come with the how to’s and/or an article to get further ideas.

In addition, if you see something you like in a display or a magazine take a shot of it and place it in your photo library.

Book mark websites on your computer or add to your reading list. And link them to the time slot you have booked in your calendar to spend time on this activity.

  • Magazines – If you love to browse through the magazines flip through and tear out all those pictures, tips and recipes that you like.

You can label a file i.e. Christmas Ideas, plans, decorating, recipes (again pick a name you will remember).

Place all those organized home items into the file(s). You might decide to have a file for each idea to separate the pages i.e. Christmas recipes. Place them in a desktop hanging file box for easy reference.

Use dividers to separate each category i.e. Decorating, Gift ideas, Gifts to make, Christmas Cards to make/mail, Recipes, Centre pieces, Displays, Crafts and Miscellaneous for the one or 2 items that don’t really fit in with any of your other inspiration ideas. Place each page into a clear page protector.

If you would like to have just one or two binders for all your holiday ideas, organize them i.e. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, Diwali, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, etc. and use sub-categories to keep each holiday section organized.

After you are finished with the magazines toss them into the recycle bin.

And finally,

Step 3: Schedule time to shop, create and/or decorate.

  • Whether you use a paper calendar, a magnetic board on your refrigerator or the calendar on your smart phone you need to schedule in the time(s) to complete these tasks.

Keep it Simple. Make this Christmas a Celebration to Remember.
